One of the founding branches of the MND Association, Nottinghamshire has played a major part throughout the 27 year history of the charity. Nottingham's Queens Medical Centre is home to one of fourteen MND Care Centres across the UK, and the University hospital is running extensive research into the causes of Motor Neurone Disease, both funded in part by the Association. There has been greater awareness of MND lately with increased media coverage and the highly successful 'John's Journey' campaign run by National Office with a website (www.johnsjourney.org) and poster events in London. We at branch level need to take advantage of this higher profile to boost our own regional fundraising, because it's through the efforts of our members and friends and an enthusiastic committee, that we can continue to offer support to those people whose lives are affected by MND in the Notts area. Although most people get involved with the Association because they have a personal involvement with someone with MND, it's important to cast our volunteer nets wider, because we think we really have something special to offer people who are looking to get involved with a seriously worthy cause. We are a very friendly group and we receive highly professional back up from our National Office in Northampton. We are looking for people to strengthen our volunteer support in all areas, and would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help us with fundraising, events organisation, campaigning and influencing, and finding ways to bring the work of the MND Association to the attention of individuals and companies that operate sponsorships or benefits for charitable causes such as ours. In addition to fundraising help, we would be especially delighted to hear from anyone who has the generosity and fortitude to become an Association Visitor for people living with MND, to help with the practical and emotional support that both they and their carers need. Our national headquarters offers full training for this role, and you'd become a vital part of a country wide network. Like the other 95 Branches and support groups nationwide, we in the Notts area are volunteers from widely differing backgrounds, but one thing unites us - the conviction that, be it in two years or twenty two, a cure will be found for this awful disease. And every penny we raise brings that great day closer! If you'd like to join us and feel the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others - and have some fun along the way, why not contact us to find out more about the part you can play in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease. You won’t regret it. How to contact us? Ruth Clark You can click here to download a leaflet on volunteering in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format or here to visit the National Office website |
